The founder's log

Why I started Titan Relic Frontier

I spent six years as a QA lead on mid-budget sci-fi RPGs before burning out on launch-day hype cycles. Every outlet was scoring games in the first 48 hours, long before the loot loops or endgame economies revealed what a title actually was.

So in 2019 I started writing from a walk-up above Spadina Avenue in Old Toronto — one long-form review a week, published only after I had put at least 20 hours into a game. No embargoed hot takes, no affiliate pop-ups, no scores bought with early-access keys.

Today Titan Relic Frontier is still a small operation: me, two freelance contributors, and a Discord full of players who argue about drop rates at 2 a.m. If a review says a game is worth your CA$79.99, it is because we actually finished it.

Loot & Economy Deep Dives

The math behind the grind.

We datamine drop tables, model crafting sinks, and explain when a live-service economy respects your time — and when it is quietly built to sell you time back.

We use a straightforward 1–10 scale, but the score is always paired with a written verdict explaining the reasoning. A 7 from us means genuinely good with clear caveats, not "disappointing." We never adjust a score after publishing unless a patch materially changes the game, and if it does, we note the date and what changed.

Never. We do not run paid reviews, sponsored verdicts, or affiliate storefront links. Studios sometimes send review keys, which we disclose at the top of every article, but a free key has never bought a higher score. Our supporter memberships and the occasional non-intrusive ad keep the lights on.

Memberships start at CA$6 per month or CA$60 per year. Members get the full uncut audio of our studio interviews, early access to loot deep dives 48 hours before they go public, and an ad-free reading experience. You can cancel any time and keep access through the end of the billing period.

Usually one to two weeks after launch. We require a minimum of 20 hours in a game before publishing a verdict, and for RPGs with long endgames we often wait until we have seen the credits or hit the level cap. We would rather be late and right than fast and wrong.

Absolutely. We take pitches from writers based anywhere, and we especially like hearing about smaller Canadian and indie studios. Email us a short outline and a writing sample; we reply to every serious pitch within about a week.

It is a small studio above Spadina Avenue in Old Toronto, not a glass tower. Two freelance contributors join our founder, and most of the team works remotely across Ontario. You are welcome to email us, though we are not set up for drop-in visits.
